Spelling words will be sent home every Monday.
**Each week your child has assignments created in spellingcity.com This is a great way for your child to practice their spelling words!!
Spelling Words:
**Our school has adopted a new reading series this year called Wonders! One area that we wanted to share with you is the spelling portion of the program. We know that spelling supports reading and that accurate spelling of words supports fluent writing. Phonetic/spelling instruction should be used as a tool to apply in daily reading and writing. It should not be a "memorize today and forgotten tomorrow" philosophy. We intend to hold students accountable to knowing the word, spelling the word, recognizing them in context, and being able to decode them beyond the week when they are in focus. You will notice that this program has spelling words that are not as difficult as you may have anticipated with your second grade student. We ask that you remember the philosophy of this program and not only study for Fridays but make these words a part of your child's total reading and writing program.
